Each word has two speeds. Listen and repeat them many times:

La doppia negazione si usa quando non รจ seguito dal verbo + niente/ piรน/ mai Esempi :

Se sono messi dopo il verbo, anche gli avverbi NEANCHE, NEMMENO, NEPPURE, hanno bisogno della negazione NON. Se invece sono posti prima del verbo la doppia negazione non si usa. Esempi:
Nemmeno Maria รจ venuta al cinema = Non รจ venuta al cinema nemmeno Maria. Neppure ieri ho lavorato = Non ho lavorato neppure ieri. Neppure i nostri amici sono stati in Italia = Non sono stati in Italia neppure i nostri amici Neanche lei verrร con noi = Non verrร con noi neanche lei. Neanche la libreria vendeva quel libro = La libreria non vendeva neanche quel libro.
If they are placed after the verb, the adverbs NEANCHE, NEMMENO, NEPPURE, also require NOT. If instead they are placed before the verb the double negation is not used. Examples:
Nemmeno Maria รจ venuta al cinema = Non รจ venuta al cinema nemmeno Maria. / Not even Maria came to the cinema. Neppure ieri ho lavorato = Non ho lavorato neppure ieri. / I didn’t work yesterday either. Neppure i nostri amici sono stati in Italia = Non sono stati in Italia neppure i nostri amici. / Not even our friends have been to Italy. Neanche lei verrร con noi = Non verrร con noi neanche lei. / Not even she will come with us. Neanche la libreria vendeva quel libro = La libreria non vendeva neanche quel libro. / Not even the bookstore sold that book.
Nellโitaliano parlato lโavverbio di negazione โnonโ puรฒ essere sostituito o rafforzato dallโavverbio MICA, nel significato di โper nulla, affattoโ. Usato in funzione rafforzativa, โmicaโ va sempre dopo il verbo. Esempi: Questo รจ riso biologico, mica di bassa qualitร . Non ho mica letto il tuo messaggio!
In spoken Italian the adverb of negation “not/non” can be replaced or strengthened by the adverb MICA, meaning “not at all/not even”. Used as a strengthening function, “mica” is always placed after the verb. In English it may sound redundant. Examples:

Voglio parlarvene, perchรฉ molto probabilmente a vostra insaputa l’avete vista mille volte, ad esempio al cinema, tanto da essere stata ribattezzata The Movie Font. Infatti รจ stata usata in film come Io sono Legenda, Unbreakable, L’Ultimo Samurai, A Beautiful Mind, The Gladiator. Il grafico Yves Peters dice che sono piรน di 400 i poster realizzati con questa font.
Ma veniamo al dunque.
I want to talk to you about it, because most probably you’ve seen it a thousand times before, for example at the cinema, so much so that it was renamed The Movie Font. In fact it was used in films like “I’m Legend”, “Unbreakable”, “The Last Samurai”, “A Beautiful Mind”, “The Gladiator”. The graphic designer Yves Peters says that there are more than 400 posters made with this font.
But let’s get to the point.

If for many movie posters Trajan is a good choice, for others a little less, and in the case of Artificial Intelligence, it’s totally wrong. To understand this let’s discover what Trajan is and how it was born.
Alla fine degli anni ’80 la designer Carol Twombly studia i caratteri lapidari romani, quindi la scrittura in uso durante l’impero romano e se andate a Roma la cittร ne รจ piena, tutti i templi, le tombe e luoghi piรน importanti hanno incisioni su pietra realizzati secondo questo stile. Carol nei suoi studi si concentra prevalentemente sulle incisioni alla base della Colonna di Traiano e ne viene fuori un carattere classico ed elegante che dopo quasi trent’anni resta uno dei caratteri piรน utilizzati nel mondo della comunicazione visiva.
At the end of the 80s the designer Carol Twombly studied the Roman lapidary characters, then the writing in use during the Roman Empire and if you go to Rome the city is full of it, all the temples, the graves and most important places have engravings on stone made according to this style. In her studies Carol focuses mainly on the engravings at the base of the Trajan’s Column and what emerges is a classic and elegant character that after almost thirty years remains one of the most used characters in the world of visual communication.
Date le sue origini si capisce che il Trajan si presta benissimo per realizzare poster come quello de Il Gladiatore, ambientato in epoca romana e quindi perfettamente in linea con lo stile romano della font, al contrario di Artificial Intelligence in cui lโutilizzo รจ incoerente con lโargomento trattato. La prossima volta che vedrete un poster cinematografico fate caso a che carattere hanno utilizzato, magari รจ proprio un Trajan.
Given its origins it’s understood that the Trajan lends itself beautifully to create posters such as that of “The Gladiator”, set in Roman times and therefore perfectly in line with the Roman style of the font, as opposed to “Artificial Intelligence” in which its use is inconsistent with the topic covered. Mi sento molto fortunata ad essere viva nell’era digitale. E non dimentichiamo che possiamo imparare qualsiasi cosa online, anche l’italiano!! Per una persona come me che ama imparare, sono grata per i tempi in cui viviamo. Puรฒ sembrare che il mondo si stia oscurando e che tutto non sia “bellissimo”, ma penso che sia perchรฉ l’internet espone tutto ciรฒ che una volta ignoravamo.

ร anche bene sconnettersi ogni tanto per trovare un po’ di pace e tranquillitร come ai vecchi tempi, quando i telefoni cellulari e l’internet non esistevano. A volte mi chiedo come siano riusciti i tre Re Magi senza wifi!

I feel very lucky to be alive in the digital age. I love the internet and the ever-advancing devices that allow us to connect with people around the world, either for work, for charity or to feel closer to loved ones who live across the ocean.
And let’s not forget that we can learn anything online, even Italian!! For an avid learner like myself, I’m grateful for the times we live in.
It may seem that the world is getting darker and that everything is not “bellissimo”, but I think it’s because the internet exposes everything that we once ignored.
Thanks to the internet, more people can get an education and escape poverty and work remotely from anywhere in the world.
Without the internet, I would not be able to share my love for Italy with you! It makes us all more Italian!

As everyone knows food is sacrosanto in Italy! Sharing and enjoying meals in the company of family and friends is central to Italian culture. In fact, we even have a popular proverb that says: “chi mangia da solo si strozza” (if you eat alone, you’ll choke).
The verb favorire, v. tr. [der. di favore] (io favorisco, tu favorisci, ecc.). to favor/to accommodate/to encourage, has many uses in the Italian language.
When it’s used at the dinner table, “Vuoi favorire?”, “Vuole favorire?” (formal), “Volete favorire?”, it’s an invitation while eating or about to start eating, to accept your food, and to eat together.
The answer that follows is “sรฌ, grazie, tanto per favorire. (o tanto per gradire).” The translation may sound something like “Yes, thank you, I favor your kind offer.”
In English you would say, “Would you like to join me?”, although it’s not quite the same thing. Favorire demonstrates one’s favor to a person, granting her/him help and protection. It could originate from a recent past of famine and poverty in which Italians supported each other with food, and shelter.
The generosity implicit of this word has not become obsolete. I think it’s ingrained in our DNA.
A student of mine pointed out the other day that it would be funny in North America, if everybody at a food court in a mall went around with their food asking “Vuoi favorire?”
Yes, maybe she’s right! Nevertheless, my aunt always asks “Volete favorire?” laying a tablecloth on the deck during long ferry rides to Sardinia.
